5 Best Books to add to your reading list in April 2022
The Song Of Achilles by Madeline Miller
The Song Of Achilles
by Madeline Miller
First one is the song of Achilles by Madeline miller this is an incredibly popular novel and I’m really looking forward to picking it up and probably vlogging about it probably crying on camera while reading it.
but this is a novel that’s been on my radar for a long time but it definitely feels like it’s finally the right time to pick this up this of course is a kind of retelling and romanticization of the classic greek tale of Achilles specifically honing in on Achilles tragic life and story as he kind of travels to war um and also his romance with Patroclus.
I’ve heard such good things about this I feel like it’s going to be a kick in the heart and in the gut but I feel like I’m ready like I’m ready for a good cathartic cry and I’ve just heard such good things about Madeline miller’s writing and just her interpretations of these classic greek myths
I also own Cersei by her so if I love this I have another book to pick up so this is the first book I hope to get to this month
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Never Let Me Go
by Kazuo Ishiguro
From there I decided to keep the tears going and I also have never let me go by Kazu Ishii guru I asked you guys which kazoo Ishiguro book I should pick up first between claire and the sun and this a lot of you guys said to start here because claire and the sun might have some parallels to this story.
or like mild connections so given that information I decided to start here this is one of the most famous books out there I would say and I hear it’s also incredibly emotional and beautiful and a little bit fantastical but it essentially follows a group of friends
who I think went to a prestigious boarding school together in the UK I think many years have passed but now their lives are beginning to intersect again I just have a feeling.
I am going to love this given that it’s lyrical and probably very character-focused and I also personally really love when authors play with fate and like interconnectedness and I feel like this might have a bit of that but we shall see
it would be an interesting reading vlog if I read this and the song of Achilles at the same time would I survive really there’s only one way to find out but yeah I’m hoping this is my first of many Kazu Ishiguro books for this year as I own so many of his novels and I just need to get to them.
Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa
Shadow of the Fox
by Julie Kagawa
Next up I have some fun y.a to break up some of the angst and that is shadow of the fox by Julie Kagawa
I have never read a Julie cagwell book and I feel like it’s time for me to resolve that particularly I’ve heard such good things about this particular series and I love dark y fantasy so I’m just hoping this is a series
I can start and love and read multiple of the books throughout the year and this essentially one appears to have tropes that I just love which is kind of like I’m supposed to kill you but
I think we’re gonna fall in love this is set in a world where there is an ancient magical scroll that can summon a dragon which will grant one wish and I believe we’re kind of at the end of an era of the last wish and a new one is about to dawn this story opens with one of our main characters Yumiko.
who is half human half kitsune due to her half-consuming nature she’s really really good at illusions but she has been hiding her true nature most of her life but when her adoptive family is slain and her entire village is burned to the ground.
she escapes with one powerful artifact the ancient scroll cut to our other main character Kage Tatsumi who has been raised as a powerful warrior and he’s basically been sent on a mission to retrieve the scroll at all costs there I believe our characters lives and fates begin to intertwine and I cannot wait
I feel like this is going to have excellent combat I love the folklore inclusion as well just full of magic and action and lots of angst so I’m hoping I love this and I can continue on with the rest of the series throughout the year but this is one I definitely hope to pick up.
Arm of the Sphinx by Arm of the Sphinx
Arm of the Sphinx
by Arm of the Sphinx
The next book on my tbr is arm of the sphynx by Josiah Bancroft this is book two to send little sense which I read last month and loved loved loved so much given that I don’t want to let too much time pass between reading books one and two as I believe the fourth and final book actually comes out later this year so it’d be lovely again to kind of marathon this entire series.
but I loved sendlin ascends it’s whimsical it’s dark and just so gripping with great characters you can’t help but root for so I just want to dive into the second book right away this series basically follows our main character sunlin.
who is a mild-mannered school teacher and essentially he has always dreamed of traveling to the tower of babel which is this ginormous and terrifying tower where each floor kind of has its own personality and theme and is also controlled by different powerful individuals.
and he basically seeks to make this dream come true and he travels there on his honeymoon with his new wife but unfortunately on their first day there he loses her so so begins his quest and journey to try to find his lost wife and travel up this tower to save her.
the first one was amazing again just the writing style just the creativity of this tower and just how everything was described it was amazing it’s really dark and really disturbing in some ways and just the overall creativity is astounding.
I love sunlin I love his character so much and just his whole journey throughout the first one I just could not put it down so I’m excited to see how this book continues to escalate in book two because the politics and everything is definitely growing in ways i was not anticipating so this is definitely a must-read for me in April
Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness
Shadow of Night
by Deborah Harkness
Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness I really enjoyed book one and I’m honestly kind of in the mood for some angsty paranormal romance so I’m hoping and have a feeling this will definitely fit the bill first one the discovery of which is basically follows our two main characters.
one is a witch one is a vampire and in this world kind of paranormal creatures are supposed to not interact with each other to avoid essentially drawing the attention of humans both diana and matthew work in academia specifically diana is an archivist and historian and that sort of setting is definitely really pronounced and just creates such wonderful ambiance especially in the first book.
what i’m really excited about book two besides the obvious and very angsty romance between a vampire and a witch is actually the historical setting is being expanded even further within this novel in a way that i am so excited for in fact.
this kind of transforms a bit to almost historical fiction so with all of those things in mind i feel like this is going to be very entertaining i’m also wanting to watch the show soon so i’m really hoping to kind of at least catch up with the seasons before i start watching that on television but yeah this is definitely a book i hope to get to this month.
